  1. The Armed Forces Veterans Day is celebrated on 14 January every year as on this day in 1953, the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of Indian Army, Field Marshal KM Cariappa, who led Indian forces to victory in the 1947 war, formally retired from the service. 
  2. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declared Kerala as the first state in the country to go fully digital in its banking service and said that the recognition would boost the state economy.
  3. Suryakumar Yadav has become the fastest player to reach 1,500 runs in T20 International cricket in terms of balls faced. 
  4. On 9 January 2023, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated a new vehicle location control centre and mobile app, as a part of efforts to enhance security for women in West Bengal.
  5. Vivek Agnihotri’s film ‘The Kashmir Files’ has been shortlisted for Oscars 2023.
  6. A recent data by Central Pollution Control Board claimed that Delhi was the most polluted city in India in 2022 with PM 2.5 levels more than double the safe limit and the third highest average PM10 concentration.

  10. President Droupadi Murmu virtually laid the foundation stone of state-owned energy firm SJVN’s 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project in Jaipur, Rajasthan. 
  11. On 8 January 2023, the Osmanabad District Court became the first court in Maharashtra to introduce an e-system of functioning, under which, all the court-related work including filing, payment and other court services can be done through the mobile app or through online mode.
  12. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao appointed Senior IAS Officer A Santhi Kumari (1989 batch) as the first woman Chief Secretary of Telangana for a tenure until April 2025.
  13. France team captain Hugo Lloris on 9 January, 2023 has announced his decision to retire from international football at the age of 36. 
  14. On 11 January 2023, Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, launched the book titled ‘Braving A Viral Storm: India’s Covid-19 Vaccine Story’ in New Delhi which is co-authored by Aashish Chandorkar and Suraj Sudhir.

  16. Socialist stalwart and former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Sharad Yadav passed away on 12 January, 2023 at the age of 75.
